Instant potatoes may conjure images of bland, lifeless side dishes with all the flavor of Styrofoam or pressed wood. However, you can use this recipe to give those store-bought instant potatoes so much punch, they may become a regular item on your menu. Does this Spark an idea?

  • 9 X 6 inch microwaveable baking dish
  • Instant potatoes mix
  • Water
  • Milk
  • Butter
  • American cheese slices or the cheese of your choice
  • Onion flakes or diced yellow onions
  • Accent
  • Salt and pepper
  • Parsley flakes
  • Paprika.

Instructions

  1. Snazzing up instant potatoes

    • 1

      Pour 1 1/3 cups of instant potatoes into your baking dish. Add 1/3 cup of milk and 1 1/3 cups of water, 2 tbsp. of butter, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, a dash of pepper and a dash of Accent

      Tear two slices of American cheese (or the cheese of your choice) into little bits and toss into the mixture. Stir.

      Put the dish into the microwave for 5 minutes. Upon completion, sprinkle the top with paprika and parsley flakes and put the dish under the broiler in your conventional oven for 6 more minutes or until the top turns brown and crispy.

      Remove the dish from the oven. Let it cool for a few minutes before serving. This will serve three or four people.
