get your baby/toddler to sleep in their crib/bed

This happens to most people I know with kids even myself, your child wakes up in the middle of the night crying because they want to be with you so you let them fall asleep with you. Now the problem starts when every night they want to fall asleep with you. what to do?

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Your child and a Teddy bear.
  1. Step 1

You can start by staying with your child in their room next to them. Make sure they stay in their bed. Give them their favorite toy to sleep with. you can read them a story or sing to them to help them fall asleep. Also a glass of warm milk can help them to relax but if they are potty trained make sure they go to the bathroom before they fall asleep.

  2. Step 2

Repeat the next day but stay in the middle of the room not so close.

  3. Step 3

Each day get a little further until you get out of the room. You may need to assure them that you are there but that they need to sleep in their big boy/girl bed. They will get used to sleeping in their own bed especially if they share a room with a sibling because they wont feel so lonely. This may or may not take a while depending on your child. Everyone's different but this works for my 3 yr old and 1 yr old.

Tips & Warnings
  • Reward them for sleeping in their bed by themselves.
  • You can try making a small bed for a doll and show them how the baby sleeps in their bed.
  • Try using a night light in their room.
  • keep a baby monitor in their room if you are worried about them being alone. There are even some that have a video connection that you can connect to your TV or it can have it's own monitor.
  • If the milk makes them wet the bed you may need to cut that out from your routine or give it to them earlier.
  • Make sure their windows are shut and locked.
  • make sure their floor is clear so they don't trip if they wake up at night.
  • You may need to go back to their room to get them to sleep.
