care for baby's umbilical cord

The umbilical cord is a scary looking thing and we worry we will hurt our baby but caring for the cord is not as hard as you think. And it will not hurt your baby.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

First thing is you do not want to ever wet the cord with water so your baby should not take any bath until the cord falls off . It will fall off fairly quickly usually by the first Dr. appointment.

  2. Step 2

Always clean the cord with every diaper change.

  3. Step 3

Just use a q-tip and put in rubbing alcohol, And rub it around the cord well.

  4. Step 4

Or you can use a cotton ball just dip it into the alcohol and carefully squeeze it lightly around the cord area only.

  5. Step 5

Then just put the clean diaper gently over the cord.

Tips & Warnings
  • Some infant diapers have a angled cut because of the cord if you prefer.
  • I prefer using a regular diaper, I think the other ones rubbing under the cord cause it to fall off too soon before the belly button is healed.
