Step 1
Make One Statement: If you want to wear a big, multi-strand necklace, a large cuff or long tiered earrings, let that be the focus. Keep everything else small and understated. If you have a lot of glitter in your clothing, don't wear glittery jewelry with it, because it will be too much.
-
Step 2
Don't Match Pieces: Forget the old way of matching your earrings, necklace and bracelet. They should all compliment each other and be the same formality level, but not match exactly. As long as they have the same vibe, it's more modern to mix it up a little.
-
Step 3
Don't Clutter Your Jewelry: Make sure that if your pieces are big, that they aren't too close to each other. If you're wearing long earrings, don't add a necklace...wear a bracelet instead. Or try a multi-strand necklace with a large cocktail ring. Of course if you're just wearing simple diamond studs, wearing a necklace will be just fine.
-
Step 4
Consider Shapes That Flatter:
If you think that your fingers are short, wearing a ring that is oval or long will make them seem longer. If you have a long, square face, wear smaller earrings, and the opposite for a round face. Long earrings will pull down a round face and make your cheeks look slimmer. Long necklaces look best on those with short necks, while chokers flatter long necks.
