Things You'll Need:
- Notebook
- Pen
- Your study materials
-
Step 1
Pay attention in class and actively take notes. Taking notes helps you retain what you are being taught.
-
Step 2
Study each evening, even if it is just for a few minutes. Don't just study right before you have a test or a quiz.
-
Step 3
Complete all of the reading your teacher assigns, even if you don't think you are going to be tested or quizzed on it. The reading helps you understand other concepts.
-
Step 4
Ask for help when you need it. Take the time to talk to your teachers after class, during lunch or after school when you need extra help to understand a concept.
-
Step 5
Whenever a teach offers extra credit, take advantage of it. Never let an opportunity for extra credit go by.
-
Step 6
When studying for a test, don't cram all your studying into one evening. Take a few days or a week to study the material and break your study time up into one to two hour blocks per day.
-
Step 7
If you don't do well on a test, ask if you could re-take the test. It never hurts to ask. The teacher may not say yes, but at least you tried.
-
Step 8
Eat healthy foods. Giving your body positive nourishment will help your brain retain information longer.
-
Step 9
Get a good night's rest. Your mind needs rest to function at its peak.
