How to Stop Hating Your Job

Have you ever walked into your job for a good while stating that you love your job? Just to go back as soon as a few months, or years later proclaiming how much you hate your job? And now you have had a tough time finding a new job to leave your old position for?

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • self control
  1. Step 1

Take it from someone that is in that position now. The company that I currently work for is a small family run business with 5 stores. My position is a private postal clerk. Up until a year ago I loved my job. I had no qualms stating that. But, about 4 months back that all changed. Now when the alarm clock goes off the last thing that I want to do is get up, and go to work.

  2. Step 2

We have addressed the issue, now how do we fix the issue before our lack of gusto for our job lands us fired. First of all lets look at the obvious, what got you to this point. Mine was having more seniority in my department, and I have been passed up twice for honorary promotion due to the prior managers convenience.

So, what I did was make myself my own boss at work. I figured that the only person that I really had to answer to was the owner, and this made a world of difference. While this seems easy or impossible, I always kept an ear to the job market, and my nose to the grindstone.

  3. Step 3

As for what you may be able to do for yourself, it's going to depend on your own employment circumstances. If the office music bugs you bring in an ipod and listen to your own mix just low enough to not bother anyone else. If the temperature bothers you bring in a fan or close off your vent if it reachable. If the dullness of the surroundings is what is going on dress it up a bit, plants, pics, etc. If it is your co-workers join, or avoid. Can't get a lunch break to save your life? Get a fridge, and small microwave to keep in your office. Eat between appointments. If you work where it is impossible to keep the area clean buy a few good sized trash cans.

  4. Step 4

Thoe point being is that you have to figure out what started all of the negativity in your job. If it has been a while since your last vacation (over a year) plan one. If you can't make arrangments to get out of town for a short weekend retreat. If you live near a beach, or national preserve, make it a point to go as often as you can. If there is something that you like doing a lot, leave waork at the time clock and don't give it a second thought until your next shift. Take a short sebatical before and after work. Go for a swim, walk, jog, bike ride, etc. Treat yourself to a spa day, or camp out in your tub for a little while, with music and candles.

  5. Step 5

Do everything that you can do to relax. Get your self in check. Your job, unless you have family money, is your ends meat.

on 10/20/2008 :) I have had 2 jobs in the past that were like I have described above. I have never been a band wagon jumper, but I have decided to go with the flow now. I have taken a fan to work because of the heat issue, I use a radio at work, and keep my ipod there for noise, when the hip-hop music gets to be too much. On foot ball day on friday I wear one of my husbands team shirts. I have pictures in my office of my son and favorite places to visit. This is how I keep it together.
