Wigwarehouse,

The Afro puff is an alternate take on the Afro. It is a style typically worn by African American women, but also Latin women as well. It is an updated, sleeker Afro style that allows you to be sophisticated and natural. The fullness of your puff depends on the length and level of thickness your hair has. If you don't feel as if you have enough hair to create this style there are extension hair pieces that are available.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Moisturizer
  • Afro pick
  • Wide toothed comb
  • Knee high or scarf
  • Gel
  1. Step 1

Start with detangled hair. Comb out any knots, or tangles with a wide toothed comb.

  2. Step 2

Use an Afro pick, and starting from the tip down to the bottom, pick out your hair in sections.

  3. Step 3

Once your hair is picked out you should have a full Afro. Take some holding gel, non-protein or alcohol-based, and rub it into your hands. Smooth it onto the front of your hair pushing your hair towards the back. Continue this gel application on the sides, and in the back. In the back smooth the hair upward where the puff will be.

  4. Step 4

When you have the sides, front, and back gelled down, there should be a middle section of your hair left untouched. This is the portion that will make your puff. Take a knee high (that you use on your feet), or a scarf and place it on top of your forehead. Loosely tie it in the back, allowing for movement.

  5. Step 5

With the knee high or scarf sitting at your forehead, begin to push it back toward your puff. As you push it back, tighten the tie in the back of your head so the scarf won't come loose. Continue to push back and tighten until the puff is the place where you want it to be. Once it is there, push the back of the scarf upward and begin to knot the scarf securely.
