Personalize the Christmas tree with this egg head ornament. Make one for each family member with their own faces on the ornaments. These instructions are for the female Mrs. Santa faces, but they can easily be altered to make the male equivalent. This is also a good project for teachers to do with their older students to bring home as a gift for Mom and Dad at Christmas time. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Photo copy a picture of a face. The photo needs to be a close up shot as this is forming the face of the head. To make generic faces, cut magazine face photos out. The face should be large enough to cover about 3/5 of the front of the plastic egg. Cut the face out and glue it to the front of the egg.

    • 2

Cut a piece of the fabric large enough to cover the rest of the egg from the edge of the face back. Then glue it around the rest of the surface of the egg. Tuck the loose fabric down flat on the back and glue it in place.

    • 3

Pull the cotton balls apart carefully to have a continuous piece of cotton about ½-inch wide to frame the face. Glue it in place around the face like a frame of soft fur.

    • 4

Cut a piece of gathered lace trim long enough to go around the face behind the cotton fur, like the lace edge of a cap. Make sure there is enough to slightly over lap the ends on the chin side of the face. Glue it in place behind the cotton fur.

    • 5

Cut a piece of the embroidery floss 4 to 6 inches long. This is the hanging hook for the ornament. Tie the ends of it together to form a looped piece for the hook. Then cut a piece of ribbon long enough to frame the face again behind the cotton fur and lace. Set the tied end of the embroidery floss hook under the top of the piece of ribbon as it is glued it in place around the face behind the lace and cotton. Put the cut ends of the ribbon at the chin side of the egg face.

    • 6

Tie a small ribbon bow and glue it at the edge of the cotton batting and lace below the face like the tie of the Mrs. Santa or winter bonnet or hat. Let everything dry completely and hang the ornament on the tree.
