Steam your face. This means you will need to do a steam treatment to open your pores. When the pores are open, it is easier for your cleanser and exfoliate to get rid of the dirt and oil that clogs them. Boil hot water and add calming herbs such as mint, eucalyptus and lavender. Turn off the stove and allow the water to sit until it is no longer dangerously hot, but still warm enough to do its job. Submerge a towel or face cloth into the water and wring it out lightly, still allowing for some warmth to stay in the towel. Place the towel over your face and neck until it cools. Repeat this several times until you feel that your pores have been opened.

Cleanse with a gentle face wash. Since you will also be exfoliating I suggest you use a gentle cleanser to clean out the pores. Try a gel or a foaming cleanser during this process.

Exfoliate. Exfoliating is a good way to get rid of dead skin cells. Dead skin gives the illusion of patchiness and uneven tone. Go for an exfoliate that has natural extracts in it as opposed to beads.

    • 4

Tone your skin. It is important to follow up this extensive cleansing process with a toner. Toners help bring back your skin's natural pH balance after cleansing. It acts as a refresher that also preps the skin for moisturizer.

Moisturize your skin. Moisturizing is one of the most important steps in the facial process. It keeps the skin soft and supple. Apply it in an upward motion, starting from the neck upward towards the forehead. Go for a moisturizer that has an SPF of 15 or higher.
