In fencing, epee is the heaviest and therefore slowest of the three types of swords. While sabre fencing is often decided by which fencer can more quickly make the first strike, epee bouts tend to be more defensive, with parrying playing a greater role. The reposite is a technique used extensively in epee fencing, since it combines a defensive and offense in one move.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Anticipate your opponent's attack. In a balanced stance, with your elbow in near your body and the point of your weapon pointed toward your opponent, wait for him to make a lunge against you.

  2. Step 2

Move your hand toward your opponent's lunge so that you deflect her sword with the thicker part of your blade and the bell guard.

  3. Step 3

Extend your arm forward at the same time that you move your guard to deflect his attack. This will catch your opponent's blade between your guard and the base of your sword, making it easy to overpower and shift away from you.

  4. Step 4

Attack your opponent while you deflect her blade by keeping the tip of your sword aimed at her chest as you move your hand and arm forward.

Tips & Warnings
  • Reposites are easiest to execute against lunges aimed toward the upper body.
