How to Make a Wood Lathe Snowman Ornament

Things You'll Need
- Wood lathe
- 14-gauge wire
- 1/2-inch wide flat wood trim
- Plaid fabric
- Off-white acrylic paint
- Black acrylic paint
- Orange acrylic paint
- Black permanent marker
- Wood skewer
- Miter saw
- Paintbrush
- Craft glue
- Wire cutters
- Drill and bit
- Needle-nose pliers
- Scissors

Cut a piece of lathe 7 inches using the miter saw. Cut a piece of the 1/2-inch wide flat wood trim 2 1/4 inches using the miter saw.

Drill two holes in one end of the wood lathe 1/4 inch in and down from each corner.

Paint 1 1/2 inches on the top and sides of the ornament using the black acrylic paint to create the top hat. Allow the paint to dry.

Paint the rest of the ornament's top and sides using the off-white acrylic paint for the snowman's body. Allow the paint to dry.

Paint the 1/2-inch wide piece of flat wood trim black for the top hat's brim.

Glue the brim over the seam between the black and off-white paint at a slight angle. Allow the craft glue to dry.

Cut a piece of the 14-gauge wire 4 1/2 inches long. Thread the ends from the back side of the lathe. Curl 1/2 inch of the ends, using the needle-nose pliers, to hold in place. Bend the looped part of the wire up to create a hanger for the wood lathe snowman ornament.

Dip the blunt end of the skewer into the black acrylic paint and dot two eyes 1/8 inch below and centered under the hat brim. Allow the paint to dry.

Paint a nose using the orange acrylic paint. The nose is a long skinny triangle that lays on its side. The flat edge is vertical below the center of the eyes, and the point extends to the right and tilted slightly upward. Allow the paint to dry.

Dip the blunt end of the skewer into the black acrylic paint and dot a smile on the wood lathe snowman ornament using four dots. Allow the paint to dry.

Draw two angled eyebrows above the snowman's eyes using the black permanent marker.

Rip a piece of the plaid fabric 1 inch wide by 10 inches long. Tie the strip around the wood lathe snowman ornament's neck and trim the ends. Glue the ends of the strip to the ornament.
