How to Open Router Ports
Port forwarding is a must for hosting any kind of gaming server. People can't access a server that you are hosting unless they can get through your router. With a few setting changes, you can create a port that will allow an opening for any type of gaming or server hosting.

Navigate to "My Network Places" on your computer. Right-click on the LAN with which you connect to the Internet.

Select "Properties" from the drop-down list.

Click the "Advanced" button and highlight your connection. Click on "Settings." A window will open showing the ports that you currently have set up.

Click on the "Add" button to make a new port. Put the desired IP address in the "Name" or "IP Address" box. Put the port number in the fields below it. Also, you probably will want to select "TCP," as it is the newest technology with the most services and compatibility.
Creating Ports in Your Router

Access your router by opening your web browser and typing its IP address. Type your router administrative username and password to access the router.

Navigate to the applications tab of the settings window and select "port forwarding." This should open a screen full of port range boxes. Fill these with the same settings you used on your LAN connection and click "Save Settings."

Restart your system to implement the changes.

Tips & Warnings
Write down the settings you adjust on your LAN to make it easier to duplicate them in your router.
If your ISP doesn't provide you with a static IP address, then you cannot forward ports.
Do not change any other settings in your router configuration because you risk losing your connection.
