How to Create a Family Meal Plan in Excel

Planning your family’s meals for the week can be a confusing and trying experience. Creating a meal plan in Excel makes it easy to manage your shopping list and monitor your family’s nutrition and health. Here is a step-by-step guide for creating a family meal plan in Microsoft Excel.

Things You'll Need

  • Computer
  • Microsoft Excel
  • Open Microsoft Excel. Go to “File” and select “Create New Workbook”.

  • Click “File” and select “Page Setup”. Under the “Page” tab, go to the page orientation section and choose “Landscape”.

  • Build the header row. Starting from the left, enter the following titles into each column: Day, Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Ingredients

  • Under the Day column, enter the days of the week into each row.

  • As you plan your family’s weekly meal plan, enter each meal of the day under the appropriate column in each row. Under ingredients, list all of the ingredients that are needed to prepare the meals for that day.

  • Print out the meal plan and bring it with you to the grocery store. You can clearly see the ingredients you need to purchase for the week under the last column.

Tips & Warnings

  • Spend fifteen minutes once a week planning the week's meals for your family. This will make your grocery shopping much easier.
  • Use the Excel sheet to keep track of what food groups your family is consuming.
