Things You'll Need:
- Soft sweater or jacket
- Headphones
- Wristwatch with alarm
-
Step 1
Get a seat next to a window. Place your head on the window—and not on the shoulder of the person sitting next to you.
-
Step 2
Sit facing forward. Your body will naturally feel as if you are in the passenger’s seat of a car, instead of curled up uncomfortably on a train.
-
Step 3
Ball up your sweater or jacket and use it as a pillow. Many people lay their heads directly on the window. This can give you a headache from the strong vibrations.
-
Step 4
Keep your valuables close by. Ladies should put their arms through their purse straps and bags. It’s hard to sleep if you are worried about your personal items being stolen.
-
Step 5
Put on your headphones and turn up the music. It’s easier to tune out all the commotion of the train if you are listening to soothing music.
-
Step 6
Train your body to wake up naturally when you arrive at your stop. Many people who ride the DC Metro Train will wake up automatically when it reaches their station. If you haven’t trained your body properly, you may want to turn your music down so you can hear the name of the stop. You may also want to set the alarm on your wristwatch.
