How to Beat the First Date Mission of Grand Theft Auto IV

The mission described in this article has almost nothing at all to do with the main story in Grand Theft Auto 4. It is simply a filler mission, designed to pad the length of the game and lend it an extra air of reality. Some players may like this sort of thing; others may not. If you're in the latter camp, the good news is that you only have to take Michelle (you date) out once. All subsequent dates are voluntary. While on a date, Michelle will be evaluating your performance. Take her to a strip club and she will lose respect for you. Give her a dream date, however, and the two of you can become closer.

Instructions

First Date

1. Go to Michelle's apartment to begin the first date. She will ask you to take her to a carnival, but it will be closed once you get there. (Refer to the mini-map for directions to Michelle's apartment and the carnival.)

2. Lead Michelle to the bowling alley. Walk up to the desk to start a game.

3. Use "L/left bumper" to position yourself to the right of the lane. Press "A/X" to proceed. Push "R/right bumper" down and then up. The speed with which you do this determines the speed of the ball. Use "R/right bumper" to add spin to the ball as it heads down the lane.

4. Take Michelle home after the date. Be sure not to scratch her car. As of now, you will have the ability to date Michelle.

Second Date

1. Head to Michelle's apartment to pick her up for a second date. You can arrange the date by accepting her offer when she calls you, or by calling her.

2. Take Michelle to a bar just north of her apartment.

3. Order drinks by walking up to the bar. Time will skip forward, leaving you and Michelle in your car on your way home. You will be drunk. The screen will be blurry and the controls less responsive.

4. Drive slowly on the way home. Michelle won't like it if you wreck the car with her in it.

Third Date

1. Take Michelle to play pool at a pool hall. She really likes pool, and this will raise her impression of you. (This will trigger the pool mini-game.)

2. Use "L/left bumper" to line the pool cue to the left and the right. Once you have it in position, press "A/X."

3. Press and release "R/right bumper." The harder you press, the more forceful the shot.

Tips & Warnings

• Michelle prefers diners and pizza when it comes to food, and the Steinway Beer Garden and Lucky Winkles when it comes to bars. She also likes Darts and Pool, Split Sides comedy shows, Russian clothes and accessories, and expensive cars. Indulge her and her opinion of you will soar.

• While bowling, press "Y" to check your score.

• You can take Michelle on as many dates as you want.

• If you attack anyone while on a date with Michelle, the date will end. If it is the first date, you will fail the mission.
