A company invoice is very important for your small business. It is the document with which you bill clients, and it also acts as a receipt for your customers. Fortunately, you do not need expensive or fancy software to produce professional and effective invoices.

Go online to the Microsoft Office Template Download Center. In the middle column, under “Browse Templates,” select “Invoices” (see Resources below).

Click the “Filter by Product” drop-down menu in the left column of the site. Select “Word.”

Browse the available invoice templates and select the one whose design and layout type works best for your company.

Click the title of your selected template. Click the “Download” button and agree to the Microsoft service agreement.

Once the template has downloaded to your computer, open Microsoft Word. Create a new document based on the template.

Customize the data, font, text, colors and logo.

Tips & Warnings

  • When browsing for invoice templates, choose a template that is appropriate for your company's business. For example, if you sell a product, select a sales invoice; if you provide a service, select a service invoice.
  • Don't forget to insert your company logo somewhere in the invoice.
