Skateboarding on skate park ramps should be done only once you have learned and mastered the basics. Skate parks ramps offer a lot of challenge for the skater but can be dangerous if not done properly and by an experienced rider. Skate park ramps are a way to keep young people from skating in dangerous areas such as sidewalks, parking lots and the street. Once you have learned the basics of skateboarding, you are ready to move on to skate park ramps.

Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Helmet
  • Knee pads
  • Elbow pads
  1. Step 1

Start with the smallest ramp at the park. Once you master the small one, you can move on to the larger ones. Skateboarding is too dangerous of a sport to go down the large ramp when you have never been down one before.

  2. Step 2

Get used to the ramp by skating up to it and going about halfway up before turning and coming down. Make sure you are comfortable with 180-degree turns before doing this. This will help you get a feel for the steepness of the ramp, and will help build your confidence for going to the top.

  3. Step 3

Take your board and climb to the top of the ramp. From a standing position, place your board down and ride down the ramp. Don't try to do anything except stay on the board while going down. You may lose your balance for the first few times while your body adjusts to riding down a ramp.

  4. Step 4

After you can ride down the ramp, you can try to go up and down in one motion. From the other side of the skate park, in an effort to gain enough speed and momentum, skate toward the ramp. Once at the ramp, go up the ramp as far as possible, do a 180-degree turn and come back down. Do this until you can reach the top of the ramp, turn and come down without falling.

  5. Step 5

Once you are comfortable with the above steps, work your way up to the larger ramps. You will need more speed and skill to navigate the larger ones, but with a little practice, they are just like the smaller ramps.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be courteous of other skaters in the park.
  • Make sure you check your wheels on your board, making sure they are in good condition.
  • Never skate without protective gear.
  • Don't skate after dark, or if there is not enough light.
