Probing for deeper answers with a psychological interview.

Psychological questions can help an interviewer get honest answers from a job applicant that might not come through traditional interview methods. However, an interviewer must be careful when using psychological interview questions because it is not an exact science. A number of standard questions are used during a psychological interview.

Instructions

    • 1

Ask your applicant where he sees himself in 10 years to paint a picture of the candidate's work ethic, true desires and drive.

    • 2

Ask the applicant how she would define success to find out what is important to her.

    • 3

Ask what qualities he thinks you should look for in the employee for the open position to find out if he has a good understanding of the position and what it would take to perform well in it.

    • 4

Ask what color best describes her to get an indication of the applicant's ability to think quickly and come up with a creative answer.

Tips & Warnings

  • There are no right or wrong answers to psychological interview questions, but the answers can indicate if the applicant is a good fit for the job or organization.
