It has happened to everyone who has ever hosted a party or family dinner: Somebody sets a sweating glass of water, iced tea or beer on the table without a coaster. After the party's over, you see a big, ugly, white water ring on your beautiful wood table. Don't despair: It's possible to remove that unsightly ring it in just a few steps.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Wet a soft cloth with water and wring it out until it is merely damp.

  2. Step 2

Put a small amount of toothpaste on the damp cloth and add a little baking soda to the toothpaste. Rub on the spot, gently, until the spot goes away. Buff with a soft, dry cloth to remove all residue from the furniture.

  3. Step 3

If the spot isn't completely gone, make a paste of salad oil and salt. Apply it to the spot and let stand for a few minutes, then wipe and buff until all the residue is gone.

  4. Step 4

Alternately, try a paste of mayonnaise and cigarette ashes if the above steps did not work.

  5. Step 5

If all else has failed, the spot may have to be refinished. Consult a professional at a home-supply store before proceeding.

Tips & Warnings
  • To prevent white water rings in the first place, put out plenty of coasters on all your wood tables.
