Things You'll Need:
- Phillips head screwdriver
- Scissors (optional)
-
Step 1
Unplug the vacuum from the power outlet. Never perform maintenance on a vacuum that is plugged in or you could risk electric shock.
-
Step 2
Put the vacuum handle in the low position and flip the vacuum over so the bottom of the appliance is facing up. You'll be able to see the rotating floor brush now, but it's covered by a piece of plastic known as the brush cover.
-
Step 3
Use the screwdriver to remove the four screws, located at each corner of the brush cover. Lift the brush cover off and set it and the screws aside for now.
-
Step 4
Grab the rotating brush at both ends and lift it straight up out of the housing unit. You'll see that it is connected to the vacuum by the drive belt, a gray stretchy band looped at one end. The other end goes around a pulley. Set the drive belt aside for now.
-
Step 5
Clean out any strings, hair, dirt and debris from the brush column. If some of the strings are too tight, you may need to use scissors to cut them out.
-
Step 6
Once the rotating floor brush is cleaned, set it aside and check the air passageway for blockage. This is the hole that leads to the internal mechanisms of the vacuum. You can place a finger in the opening and gently swipe around to retrieve any debris.
-
Step 7
Replace the rotating floor brush into the housing. Don't forget to loop the drive belt over the right spot on the brush and reattach the belt to the pulley in the vacuum. Replace the brush cover with the screws and you are ready to clean your carpets immediately.
