The pay is awful, but the benefits are great--that's what people say about being a stay-at-home mom. Hugs, kisses and priceless artwork on the fridge make up for the lack of pay, and these benefits certainly go a long way to make the life of a stay-at-home mom wonderful. Then again, there are those days where being a CEO would be easier. This job is one of the hardest ones out there. It can drive you crazy, but it doesn't have to be that hard. Follow these tips and be a sane stay-at-home mom.

Get organized. It is possible--no matter how many children you have and what their ages are--to get organized. Schedules and lists are great tools to use to help you balance family, home and your personal time. Yes, you can have personal time. In fact, you should schedule personal time and add it to your list.

Stay organized. It is a must to keep your sanity as a stay-at-home mom. As impossible as it sounds, you can stay organized. Of course, you have to be flexible. When a crisis occurs, like a broken toy, a grease fire or something truly major like a death in the family, deal with it and get back to business. Not only will this make things run more smoothly for your home, but if helps teach your children valuable lessons they will need to know for their life after they leave home (see Resources below).

Pick your battles. Some things you are just going to have let slide. You do not have enough hands or hours in the day to do all that you feel you have to do. Set your priorities and stick with them. Know what is most important to you and your family, and make sure those things get done.

Have fun. Mopping the floor, despite your schedules and lists, can wait while you play "Candyland" or take a bubble bath. Do not get bogged down in the daily “junk” that piles up that you can’t take time out for a good laugh. Enjoy yourself and your children. They will never be this age again, so make the most of it!
