How to Change a Bike into a Stationary Bike
If you're a cyclist in a region where changing seasons keep you from enjoying your bicycle outside at certain times of year, you may need to train indoors to stay in cycling shape. One way to train indoors without having to purchase a stationary bike is to turn your outdoor bike into a stationary bike.

1
Visit a sporting goods store to purchase an indoor trainer for your bicycle. You'll clamp the back wheel of your bicycle into the trainer, since it is the back wheel that's propelled by your pedaling. This makes it possible for you to pedal on your bike without propelling it forward.

Decide on how much you can afford to spend, as well as how much you are willing to spend on an indoor trainer. Keep in mind that you may be able to find a basic stationary bike for less than some of the trainers. If you aren't a serious cyclist, you may be just as happy with a $100 stationary bike as you would be with your bicycle hooked up to an indoor trainer that costs $300.

3
Purchase the trainer that you decide on based on your budgets and needs.

4
Follow the instructions provided with your trainer to hook it up to your bicycle and create your new stationary bike.

Tips & Warnings
Set up a fan in front of your newly stationary bicycle to cool you down while you ride, since you won't get a breeze indoors as you would outdoors.
