How to Group Layout Elements in Quark Xpress 6

Grouping in Quark Xpress 6 allows you to take two or more elements and group them together so when you move one, you move them all. This is particularly helpful when you need to resize the document as a whole or edit another part of the document.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the cursor at one corner of the selection of elements you would like to group together. Holding the cursor down, drag it toward the opposite corner until you have highlighted everything you want grouped.

    • 2

Either click on Item (on the toolbar at the top) and then Group, or use the short key command, which is Ctrl-G. The grouped items will be outlined by a dotted line.

    • 3

Or, hold down the shift key and click on each element you want grouped. Let go of the shift key when you are done selecting. Click on Item and Group or Ctrl-G to set the group.

    • 4

When you are ready to Ungroup, highlight the group by selecting it with the Item tool. Click on Item (on the toolbar at the top) and then click on Ungroup. Or, use the short key command, Ctrl-U.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can still edit an individual element in a Group. Click on the content tool and resize by dragging the handles.
