How to Write a Professional Objective for a Resume

Grab the attention of a potential employer with your resume objective by creating an objective from the employer’s point of view. This is the chance to showcase your main qualifications and your career goals and to show why you would be the right choice for the position you are applying for. All it takes are one to three creative and descriptive sentences to make your resume stand out from the crowd.

Instructions

  1. Write a Professional

    • 1

Create an objective that tells the potential employers what value you will bring to their company. For example: Executive Admin position in a corporate setting, where over seven years of professional administration experience will add productivity and value to the corporation.

    • 2

Create an objective that is tailored to the position you are applying for. For example: I am interested in the Human Resource Administration position you recently advertised. I am confident that I will be able to make the most of my organizational and personal management skills in your HR department.

    • 3

Create an objective that is clear and stay away from clichés by avoiding words such as: Seeking, challenging, obtaining, potential for growth and advancement.

    • 4

Create an objective that is short and to the point. HR managers and supervisors often sort through hundreds of resumes. Many times the hiring manager will only scan the objective before moving onto the next resume.

    • 5

Create different resume objectives for each position you are applying for. For example, if you are applying for a customer service position do not use the same Objective you created for an office administration position.
