How to Create, Insert, Size and Edit Word Art in Microsoft Word 2003
The word art feature, found under the auto shapes toolbar in Microsoft Word 2003, allows users to create a wide variety of three-dimensional word shapes to add to their document. Users are able to edit or change the text, determine text wrapping points and even modify the orientation of the text. This feature can really come in handy when users are creating artful documents that require more than just simple text.

Choose and area of the document to place the word art. Click anywhere inside of the document to select a location for the placement of the word art.

Access the drawing toolbar. Click on the angled “A” icon that is colored blue on the drawing toolbar to open the word art menu.

Select the desired word art design. The word art menu will open where you can select from a variety of different word art designs. Click on the design of your preference and then click “OK.”

Create the word art. In the word art properties box you can create the word art. Use the “Font” drop-down menu to change the font. Click on the font size drop-down menu to change the font size. You can bold the text using the bold button and you can italicize the text use the italicize button. Click “OK” when finished to create the art.

Edit the word art. You can edit the word art by clicking on it, where a word art properties toolbar will appear.

Change the spacing. You can change the spacing by clicking on the icon with back and forth arrows.

Alter the text. You can edit the text by clicking the “Edit Text” field.

Determine text wrap points. You can edit the text warp points by clicking on the icon with a dog inside of it.

Format the style. You can change the art style by clicking on the “A” icon and choosing another word art style from the gallery.

Choose text orientation. Click on the icon with multiple letters on it to change the orientation of the text.

Resize the word art. You can size the word art by grabbing a sizing box on any of the corners and dragging mouse as the art changes from large to small, or vice versa.

Tips & Warnings
This feature is great for adding artsy words that are three dimensional and colored to a document to spice it up.
You need to have draw view enabled on the drawing toolbar to create word art.
