Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Saline solution
  • Mirror
  • Contact case
  1. Step 1

Wash your hands. It is very important to wash your hands and throughly dry them before positioning the contact lens on your fingertip. Washing your hands is important for a number of reasons. The main reason is that if you have any germs on your hands, you are at risk of transmitting those germs to your eye. Another reason is that sometimes you may touch something (an onion or pepper, for example) that will leave an oil residue on your fingers. If your contact lens touches the residue and is placed on your eye, you will end up with a red and burning eyeball.

  2. Step 2

Wash the contact lens. Be sure that your contact lenses soak overnight in a saline solution made for contact lenses. Upon removing each lens from the solution, rinse the lens again use the saline solution to eliminate the possiblilty of tiny particles that might have the opportunity to settle on your lens.

  3. Step 3

Position the lens. Position the curve of the lens on the tip of your index finger.

  4. Step 4

Open your eye. Prop your elbows onto a flat surface in an effort to steady your hand. Open your eyelid slightly by using the index finger and thumb of the opposite hand.

  5. Step 5

Place the lens. Place the contact lens over your eyeball. As soon as the lens creates a suction to your eyeball, blink your eye a few times to be sure it is secure.

  6. Step 6

Look around. Move your eyes without moving your head in effort to make sure that your contact lenses are secure.

Tips & Warnings
  • It is a good habit to sanitize your contact lens case weekly. Swap a cotton ball of alcohol inside each container and around the rim.
  • Never rinse your contact lenses with water.
