Step 1
Locate the tool palate that defaults on the left side of the document. Click and hold on the picture box button (it has a white box with an X through it). This will display a pop-up panel of picture box types.
-
Step 2
Click on the type of picture box you want. If you plan to use the same shape of box as the default box, do not switch back to the default rectangle box when finished.
-
Step 3
Place your cursor on the document where you want the top left corner of the picture box to be, then click and drag the box out until you have reached the approximate desired size. Use the handles (black dots on edges and corners of the box) to adjust the width and height by hand.
-
Step 4
Make the box a specific measurement by pressing F9 to display the measurement palette at the bottom of the page. Switch the cursor tool from the box button to the item button (at the top of the toolbar). It looks like a circle with arrows pointing from the sides. Enter the exact measurements you want under width (W:) and height (H:).
-
Step 5
Enter the top (Y:) and bottom (X:) measurements on the measurement palette to indicate where on the page you want the picture box. You can also move the picture box freehand by remaining on the item tool, clicking and holding on the box and dragging it to another spot.
-
Step 6
Highlight the box by clicking on it with the item tool, then press Ctrl+B. This will bring up a border palette. Choose the width of border you want as well as the style. You may also change the color or the shade at this time. Click "Apply" to view the box with the specifications you have chosen, then hit "OK" to save your changes and return to the document.
