From talk shows to entire television channels dedicated to fashion and style, it is obvious that makeovers have become extremely popular. Giving a makeover can be a self-esteem builder for someone you care about, or just a fun night in with friends. Follow these basic guidelines for giving someone a makeover.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Pink cloth
  • Orange cloth
  • Makeup collection
  • Hair accessories
  • Magazines
  1. Step 1

Determine the color tones that complement and enhance the person's natural coloring. A quick way to determine whether someone should be wearing cool or warm colors is holding a pink or orange T-shirt under their chin and seeing which one makes them look healthy and vibrant. If it's pink they should be wearing cool tones and if it's the orange they should wear warm-toned clothing.

  2. Step 2

Work with what they've got. Bringing out someone's best features calls attention to the features they love and hides those they don't. If someone has beautiful hair or a great body, you are going to want to focus on bringing out these traits through clothing, makeup and hair styling.

  3. Step 3

Choose clothing that complements their body. There are a few basics that work for almost everyone; boot cut jeans, white collared shirts and pencil skirts. Focus the attention upward if they have a lower-half problem area or focus the attention by elongating the legs if they have a mid-section problem area.

  4. Step 4

Use makeup to enhance a woman's natural beauty. Use the proper colors for their skin tone and remember that less is more. If you are applying a lot of heavy eye makeup or lots of black eyeliner, make sure to keep the lips pale and don't use a bright blush. If you are accentuating lips and cheek bones, keep eye makeup simple with a sheer eyeshadow and some mascara.

  5. Step 5

Leave hair coloring and cutting to the professionals. However, you can use different hair styles to hide a large forehead, accentuate beautiful eyes, or reveal a beautiful neck. Curling irons, blow dryers, head bands, hair ties and bobby pins are all at your disposal to try new styles.

  6. Step 6

Flip through magazines and try to re-create looks that you find. Substitute high-end fashions with drugstore deals or whatever you have in your own closet. The key is to complement the person receiving the makeover and by accentuating her favorite features and enhance her look without forcing something unnatural on her.
