How to Install the Jetdirect Print Server on an HP Business Inkjet 2800 Printer
In business productivity is king and the HP Business Inkjet 2800 Printer makes productivity easy. It prints everything from 4x6-inch postcards to 13x19-inch posters, which comes in handy for small offices that need to reproduce odd-sized technical drawings, brochures, and promotional material. You can make the Business Inkjet 2800 even more productive by connecting it directly to a shared network with an HP Jetdirect Print Server. Using the print server can provide improved performance and greater flexibility than trying to print using non-network connections.
Things You'll Need
- HP Business Inkjet 2800 printer
- Phillips head screwdriver
- HP Jetdirect print server card
- Print server cable

Press and release the power button located on the far left hand side of the control panel to turn the printer off. Disconnect the power cord from the printer. Disconnect any other cables from the printer.

Turn the printer until you have easy access to the rear of the unit. Locate the two retaining screws on the EIO slot cover on the right rear of the printer. Loosen the screws by turning them counter clockwise with the Phillips head screwdriver. Remove the two retaining screws and set them aside. Remove the slot cover and set it aside.

Slide the HP Jetdirect Print Server Card into the empty EIO slot. Press the card forward firmly until it is seated in place. Insert the retaining screws back into place. Tighten the screws by turning them clockwise until they are secure.

Connect one end of your network cable to the print server card. Connect the other end to your network device. Turn the printer back to its operating position. Connect the power cord to the printer. Press and release the power button to turn the printer on.

Verify correct installation by printing a configuration page. The printer should produce 2 pages. If the second page does not print, repeat Steps 1-4 to insure the card is properly seated, and then attempt to print a new configuration page.

Tips & Warnings
If installation problems persist, refer to the HP Jetdirect Administrator’s Guide which was included on the Starter CD with the print server card for troubleshooting procedures.
Static electricity can cause damage to the HP Jetdirect Print Server Card during installation. Always discharge static electricity in your body by touching a metallic surface prior to handling the print server card. As an added precaution, you should wear a grounding strap if one is available.
