A gift of homemade breads, cookies and bars is always appreciated. When making baked goods to give as gifts, be sure you package them so that they will last. A gift of dried out bread or rock hard cookies is not what you intended. Keeping the baked goods moist and soft is easy with a little preparation.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Cool the baked goods. After taking the fresh baked goods out of the oven, allow them to cool to room temperature. Touch them lightly and when they are no longer warm from the oven, begin preparing the baked goods.

  2. Step 2

Cut brownies and bars into bite sized squares. This makes them easier for the gift recipient to grab and eat a bite at a time. Bake mini loaves for quick breads. These are easier for the recipients to store, and consume before they get stale. Break brittle and toffees into small chunks.

  3. Step 3

Use colored plastic wrap to wrap mini loaves of quick breads. Cover the entire mini loaf, ending on the bottom to hide the seam. Pull the plastic wrap tight to remove any air. This will keep the bread fresh.

  4. Step 4

Wrap brownies, bars, cookies, brittles and toffees in clusters of four or five. Use colored plastic wrap that matches the occasion. End with the plastic wrap at the top, and tie off the pouch with colorful ribbons.

  5. Step 5

Place all the goodies in a decorative container. Use a gift bag filled with tissue paper for a birthday, anniversary, going away party or engagement gift. Use a holiday decorated tin for winter holidays. Fill the bottom of the tin with shredded paper that is commonly used in Easter baskets. Secure the tin lid to the bottom of the container so the gift recipient can use it later to help store her baked goods.

  6. Step 6

Add a label to the gift bag or tin of baked goods. Start with a greeting such as “Happy Birthday” or “Congratulations,” followed by the name of the recipient and the sender. If the person will be receiving many gifts for the occasion, you will want him to know who the gift is from.

Tips & Warnings
  • Remind the gift recipient that the baked goods are all homemade, and should be eaten in a few days. Depending on the size of the gift recipient's household, don’t put in more than what can be eaten in three or four days.
