How to Compare Mac and Dell Laptops
Comparing a Mac to a Dell is sort of like comparing apples to oranges. For the most part, the two are not designed for the same audience. Further, what people do with the computers are varies. For the Dell, it is mostly word processing and Internet surfing, whereas the Mac is better for video games and graphics. The true limit to what you can do is with the processor (speed) and RAM( memory).

Define What You Want in a Computer
-
1
Determine what you will be using the computer for by looking at what you do now.
-
2
Look for something you can grow into. It is always better to have too much than to have too little. There is nothing more insulting than buying a computer to find out it will be obsolete within 6 months.
-
-
3
Determine your budget. Dell tends to have a price range for everyone, which is not the case with Apple. But both have generous terms for financing with good credit.
-
4
Write down the ultimate computer capabilities that you want that are within your budget. This will help you with the starting point. If you go blindly, then eager sales people will sell you the moon.

Start with the processor. The faster the better. For our example, let's say you have a $2,000 budget. You want your computer to do well with video, thus the processor. At Dell, You could start with their Studio model, which starts around $749. After putting on all the accessories, it can run up to $1,900. At Apple, any computer is good for video, but let's start with the Mini model due to price. In the cheapest scenario, it would run at least $1,400, since they charge $600 for a monitor.
-
6
Check the RAM. The more the better. Dell Allows you to upgrade it to 8 GB with the Studio. Apple only allows for 2 GB with the Mini.
-
7
Determine your space needs. If you are a film lover, then you need to know that it is about 1 gig per minute. Most people use external drives for their video needs . Comparing the same machines, the Dell allows you to go up to 1 TB, while the mini only allows up to 160 gig.

Compare Dells to Dells and Macs to Macs, because any other scenario might make you upset over the pricing. If you are not big into graphic designing, games and making your own movies, then a Dell will be the most affordable option.
