How to Do an Over Under Throw in Wrestling
Each wrestling match starts with the competitors on their feet, determined to take the other man down and gain a dominant position. The most common type of takedowns involve attacking the legs in some form, including the single- and double-leg takedown. The over-under throw is a hip-toss takedown that does not require the wrestler to attack the legs, but instead has him using a burst of energy to flip his opponent down from a tied-up position.

Before you begin, set up a padded mat to throw your partner onto. This will lessen the chance of you injuring each other as you learn the move. If you don't have a padded mat, practice in a slower, more controlled manner.

Secure an overhook and an underhook while tying up. An overhook is wrapping one of your arms over the top of your opponent's; an underhook is putting an arm underneath his so your hand is behind his back. When you are in this over-under position, your opponent will also have an underhook and overhook, but on the opposite side.

Step toward your opponent with the leg that's on the same side as your under hook, and rotate your hips inward. As you make this step, throw over your head the arm that has the underhook, and draw the arm with the overhook down to your waist. This will pull your opponent over your hip and off her feet.

As your opponent comes down, position him so that his back goes down first. Keeping your overhook and underhook locked in, you can often flip an opponent straight onto his back, putting you in a strong position to hold him tight to the mat. If your opponent manages to rotate himself so that he comes down on his side or knees, just stay behind him and score a takedown.

An over-under throw is a good move to attempt in a desperate situation, since it can quickly take an opponent from his feet to his back.
