How to Make a Kids Cow Costume
It can be a difficult decision to select the right Halloween costume for your child. There is quite a limited selection available in retail stores, and the Internet stores can be quite expensive. You can save yourself a lot of money if you make a costume from scratch at home and use your creativity. A cow is a great Halloween costume for a young child and is quite easy to create with a little time.
Things You'll Need
- White hooded sweatshirt
- White sweatpants
- 1/2 yard black felt
- Fabric glue
- Halloween makeup kit
- Scissors
- Cow bell
- String or twine
- 1/4 yard pink felt

1
Cut spots out of the black felt. Make them different shapes and sizes to make the costume authentic. The amount of spots you cut out of the black felt will depend on the size of your child.
-
2
Glue the spots at random on the costume. There is no pattern to real spots on a cow, so you can place them wherever you like. This is a great way to get children involved in making their own costume.

3
Let the glue dry overnight. The spots can be easily removed if you wait to the last minute to assemble your costume.

4
Cut two strips of black felt for the tail. Glue them together to make them sturdy, and attach it to the rear of the pants with a safety pin. Make sure the pin is positioned so that the child will not sit down on the safety pin and injure himself. The length of the tail depends on his height as you do not want him to trip. Cut two ears out of the black felt and pin them to the hood of the sweatshirt.
-
5
Dress your child in his costume. To complete the costume, paint his face white and add a few black spots. Be sure to test a small area of the skin with the makeup to test for allergies. String a cowbell, easily found at a craft store, around the neck like a necklace so he'll be heard around the neighborhood.
-
6
Wrap the top of your child's shoes in black felt. This will give the costume the illusion of hooves on the cow. You can even accent his costume with a small circle piece of pink felt on the belly. Add the pink felt onto the belly and add pink felt strips to it to make it look like udders.

The list of materials includes 1/4 yard pink felt. But the instructions fail to make use of the pink felt...although I assume it is to be used to represent the utter. As such, I assume that a large circle should be cut to the material and glued to the lower front of the white hooded sweatshirt.
