How to Make a Shrinky Dink Four Leaf Clover

The four-leaf clover is the fabled symbol of good luck. They're known for being exceedingly rare, but children looking for a St. Patrick's Day activity can up the total a bit by making their own four-leaf clovers on Shrinky Dink paper. They can then watch in amazement as their large clovers shrink down into smaller versions. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase a package of Shrinky Dinks at a craft store or buy some online. The Shrinky Dink Store sells the packages cheaper than you can find them on eBay. (Follow the link in Resources.)

    • 2

Place a Shrinky Dink sheet in front of you. Feel both sides; the rough side is the one you'll be coloring on.

    • 3

Take out a green pencil crayon and draw the outline of your four-leaf clover. You will need a stem and four petals. The petals look like four hearts arranged around the stem. Draw the outline bigger than you want the final product to be. Remember that it is going to shrink.

    • 4

Finish coloring in your clover with your green pencil crayon.

    • 5

Cut out the four-leaf clover with a pair of scissors. Leave blank space 1/4 inch around the clover to allow for shrinkage.

    • 6

Preheat your oven to 325 degrees.

    • 7

Put your four-leaf clover on a baking sheet and slide into the oven.

    • 8

Wait exactly 1 minute, then remove the clover from the oven.

    • 9

Give the clover time to cool before using it.

Tips & Warnings

  • Cut a strip of magnet and stick it to the back of your Shrinky Dink. Attach your new four-leaf clover to your refrigerator as a decoration.

  • Don't take your eyes off the Shrinky Dink while it is in the oven. It can burn in under 2 seconds.
