Things You'll Need:

  • Communication
  • Patience
  • Understanding
  • Respect
  1. Step 1

Remember that the key to making a living arrangement work, whether it be with your significant other or just a friend, is communication. Be sure to always express what you feel, especially if you feel uncomfortable with the other person's actions.

  2. Step 2

Sit down with your roommate and establish rules you both will live by. Simple things such as choirs; from cleaning the bathroom and kitchen to taking out the garbage and doing the dishes. Determine how late visitors can stay and if it's okay for them to stay overnight.

  3. Step 3

Respect each other's property and personal space. Treat thier belongings as if they were your own, always ask before using something, and put it back where you found it when you are done. If your roommate wants to be left alone or have quiet time, respect his wishes as you would want him to respect yours.

  4. Step 4

Give your significant other your best effort. Just because you're living together doesn't mean you should get so comfortable that you no longer get groomed for your partner. You have to keep the romance alive, keep the attraction there. Also, try to be cheerful even after a stressful day at work.

  5. Step 5

Last but not least you must determine how you will split the utilities and rental costs. In some cases, it may be best to even have invoices to give to your fellow roommates to keep track of what's being paid. If you are not sharing a place with your boyfriend it'sprobably best to buy your own groceries and be sure not to use someone else's food unless offered!
