Troubleshooting Gateway speakers is not difficult, and problems can be relatively quickly resolved.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Gateway speakers
  • Spare speakers
  • PC
  1. Step 1

Be clear about what the problem is. Is it a crackling sound? Is there no sound at all? Are the speakers picking up radio interference or possible cell phone conversations?

  2. Step 2

Some speaker problems, such as no sound or distorted sound, can be caused by defective speaker cables. Try another cable and see if the problem persists.

  3. Step 3

When in doubt, try another set of speakers on your system. This will help in determining whether the problem lies with your cables or the speakers themselves. Consider a new power adapter for the speaker replacements.

  4. Step 4

Use Ferrite strips if needed. Ferrite strips--which can be purchased from www.tigerdirect.com--are plastic clamps with a strip of iron within. Close them around your speaker cables and you'll eliminate any interference and outside signals your speakers may pick up.

  5. Step 5

Move radio wave devices. Cell phones and radios can cause interference with your speakers. Put some distance between your PC and any such devices.

Tips & Warnings
  • Keep your speakers safe from moisture
  • Be wary of crushing or twisting your speaker cables
