Step 1
Train yourself to say certain phrases. When someone does something for you, make sure to say “thank you.” If you are forced to walk in between two people talking, or you need to get past someone, make sure to say “excuse me.” Any time you ask someone for something, say “please.” The more you train yourself to say these phrases, the more you’ll say them out of habit.

Step 2
Think about what you would want done to you. If someone bumped into you without apologizing or received something from you without saying “thank you,” chances are you would get annoyed. If you wouldn’t like something done to you, then you should refrain from doing it to others.

Step 3
Take deep breaths and be more patient. It seems that some people forget their manners as soon as someone else does something wrong. For example, you may end up flipping out on someone that has just cut you off on the road. Screaming and cursing at him while you raise a certain digit isn’t exactly good manners. Instead, honk the horn to notify him that what he did was wrong. If you’re unhappy with something or you’re aggravated with a certain situation, take a few deep breaths and make a strong attempt to be more patient.

Step 4
Think before you open your mouth. You don’t want to say something that could offend someone that you’re conversing with. Before you say anything, think about how the other person would react if you were to say it. Even if you feel that they may be somewhat offended, don’t bother saying it at all.
