Things You'll Need:
- Calendar
- Ovulation kit
-
Step 1
Buy an ovulation kit. Take the first month or two charting your cycles so that you know exactly when you or your partner ovulates. Use condoms and avoid trying to conceive until you really know your cycles.
-
Step 2
Write down your ovulation times on the calendar. This is the most important part. The Shettles method is the most effective when you know the exact time that ovulation occurs. It is even more effective if you have a regular 28-day menstrual cycle.
-
Step 3
Have sex the day before and the day of ovulation for the best chance to conceive a boy. Male sperm swim much faster than females so they are likely to get to the egg first, while most of the females lag behind. Male sperm are smaller, while female sperm have larger heads and are bigger overall. The female sperm may be slower but they live much longer than the males. Male sperm can get to the egg very fast but they die off very quickly, sometimes within just a day or two, while the females can last for days in most cases.
-
Step 4
Have sex 3 to 5 days prior to ovulation for the best chance to conceive a girl. The male sperm will all make it to the egg and hang out in the fallopian tube and if the timing is right they will die off before ovulation begins. When ovulation begins there will only be female sperm waiting in the fallopian tube to fertilize the egg. Timing is everything when it comes to having a boy or a girl. It is also said that your chances are higher for conceiving a girl with missionary position.
-
Step 5
Prop your pelvis up after intercourse by putting pillows underneath your back. This increases the odds of conception for a boy or a girl. Also if the woman has an orgasm this also increases the chances of getting pregnant because when orgasm occurs it draws sperm up inside the uterus.
