How to Animate Text

Open Adobe After-effects. Click on "New Project" and "Create a New Composition."

Select the size from the Preset menu. Set the Frame Rate and the Duration to the desired amount of time.

Select "Composition," "Background color" and the color swatch. Click "OK" twice. Move your mouse pointer to the Character palette and select a text color. Click "OK." Choose a font you like. These are all personal preferences, so there is no wrong way to do this.

Move your mouse pointer to the tools palette. Click on the horizontal type tool. Draw a text box in the middle of the workspace.

Type the text that you want to animate into the text box. If you want your text to be displayed vertically, right-click over the text and choose the "Convert to Point Text" from the side menu. The side menu appears whenever you right-click your mouse on the screen. This menu is useful as a shortcut to options tucked away in the menus.

Open the "Effects and Presets" palette. Select your text with the selection tool (the arrow pointer). Double-click "Twirl Off." Select "Animation" and "Reveal Modified Properties." Press the "Enter" button on the keyboard. Type a new name in the Timeline window.

Press the space bar on your keyboard. Watch your animation spin like an eddy in a pool of water. Now that you know what this animated text looks like, you can change it to any of the hundreds of other animation styles you want.

Click the "Help" menu to learn about other animations. Select "Text Preset Gallery" and view all the text animation styles that interest you. Your options for transforming text animations are infinite.
