Becoming a paramedic in Melbourne requires you to be an incredibly skilled medical professional with a wide range of capabilities. Whether you work for the Metropolitan Ambulance Services or the Mobile Intensive Care Ambulances, you must be well trained and capable of handling yourself in an emergency.

Obtain a Bachelors degree in Emergency Health or receive an ambulance qualification from an Australian or New Zealand University. A Bachelors in Emergency Health is required to become a member of the Mobile Intensive Care Ambulances; to become a general paramedic you must have an ambulance qualification.

Be a citizen of Australia or New Zealand. The only exceptions to this rule are if you are a permanent resident of Australia or have a Working Rights Visa for non-citizens. Without this standing, you are ineligible to apply.

Possess a full Victorian Driver's license. Applicants should have this license prior to submitting interest to the Metropolitan Ambulance Services.

Pass a police background check, and have a clean driving history. Since paramedics are required to drive emergency response vehicles, your driving history must be clean for consideration.

Submit your interest to the Metropolitan Ambulance Services via email (see Resources below) and provide your full name, address, phone number, email address and details of your qualifications. When there are posted openings, you will be contacted if you meet the minimum criteria.
