Things You'll Need:
- Old broom or a craft store twig version
- Fall floral pick (mums, wheat grass, asters, or foliage)
- Fall ribbon
- Hot glue stick and hot glue gun
- Fall bow
- Floral wire
- Wire cutters
- Scissors
-
Step 1
Lay the broom horizontally on a tabletop or on your lap. Hold the floral stem over the broom. Grasp the floral pick so that the handle end is facing the top of the broom handle.
-
Step 2
Push the handle of the floral pick up into the broom bristles where they merge with the broom handle. Be sure not to push the floral stem out the other side of the broom. Push it into the broom. It should now be one blended piece.
-
Step 3
Attach the floral stem’s handle to the base of a utility broom handle (right before it meets the bristles) with a 6 inch strip of florist wire. Wrap a section of fall ribbon over the flower stem to conceal it. Finally, apply a pea-sized dab of hot glue to secure the ribbon to the broom handle at both ends.
-
Step 4
Stand the broom upright with the bristles on the floor and the stick leaning securely against the wall or a chair back.
-
Step 5
Wind a section of florist wire (cut 6 to 8 inches long using wire cutters) around the front of the bow with the ends facing to the back. Place the bow against the broom handle (near the top or in the middle of the handle) and wind the ends of the wire tightly around the broom handle. This should hold the bow securely in place.
-
Step 6
Attach a hanging fall or Halloween message sign to your broom if desired. Options include sayings such as “The Witch is In” or “Be-Witching.” Hang the sign either from the bow or about 1 inch down from the top of the broom handle. Add a dime-sized dab of hot glue to the back of the sign. Hold it in place on the broom handle until the glue dries in about 10 seconds.
