How to Create a Photoshop Brush

Making your own Photoshop brush can seem intimidating, but it is actually very simple to do. Here's an easy tutorial to guide you through the process of creating your very own Photoshop brush.

Scan or convert the image that you want to use for your brush into a large, high-resolution digital format.

Open the image in Photoshop. Using the crop or lasso tools, remove unnecessary objects or backgrounds that you don't want in the brush.

Click "Image." Navigate to "Mode" and click "Greyscale." Your image will be converted to a greyscale format.

Click "Image." Navigate to "Adjustments" and click "Brightness/Contrast." Adjust the contrast of the image to be very high. The background should be very light, and the image should be as dark as possible.

Go to "Edit" and click "Define brush." Name the brush and click "OK."

The clearer your image is, the better your brush will turn out. Find an image that has excellent details, and a strong contrast in color between the background and foreground.
