How to Lift and Carry a Baby
A baby's neck and head are very weak and need a lot of support. This is particularly true for newborns. People who have never carried or lifted small babies should learn how to do so safely. A baby feels protected and is less likely to cry if lifted and carried properly.

Alternatively, you can use a sling to carry a baby. Make sure that the sling is made of sturdy material. Also make sure that the leg holes are small enough to prevent your baby from slipping through.

Some babies like being carried on the shoulder. Use one hand to support baby's neck and head. Use the other hand to support the bottom. Be very careful when carrying a newborn this way. Make sure that her head does not move around too much, either side to side or front to back.

If the baby is 6 months or older and able to sit, you can use a backpack to carry her. Make sure that she is seated properly. It is best that you have the aluminum frame padded so your baby can't get hurt from bumping against it.
