While you are off at work, your cat is probably sleeping and laying all over your furniture. The fur and dander cover your bed and maybe even your pillowcase too. It's not healthy for you or your family to breathe in a cat's dander, and it also doesn't complement your furniture or clothes. Whether you have a short-haired or long-haired cat, you will have some loose hair around your house, but it can be managed if you take care of your cat properly. Learn some ways that you can stop those pesky fur balls.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Vitamin supplements
  • Brush
  • Metal-tooth comb
  • Shampoo for cats
  • Blankets
  1. Step 1

Keep your cat on a healthy diet so that his coat retains its natural oils. Vitamin supplements for cats that contain Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids can keep the fur smooth and knot-free. This makes brushing easier and prevents hair from becoming frizzy and loose.

  2. Step 2

Use a fine bristled brush to remove knots then use a fine tooth comb to pull up the undercoat. Depending on how thick your cat's hair is and how long it has been since he has been groomed, you might have to brush him every day or every other day until the undercoat is thinned out. Over brushing can damage your cat's coat, but you need a comb that will get to the undercoat without damaging the overcoat.

  3. Step 3

Bathe your cat once a week or every two weeks with a shampoo designed for cats. If your cat hates baths and gives you too much trouble in the tub or sink, use disposable wipes or sprays. Water helps remove loose hair, which can sometimes be missed by the brush or comb.

  4. Step 4

Avoid pulling out excess hair when you pet your cat. Instead of stroking or rubbing your cat's back, pat it instead. This prevents the loose hair from getting on your furniture and air.

  5. Step 5

Place blankets on your furniture and bed to protect your fabrics from dander. The blankets are easy to clean in the washer. Also keep a tape roller handy, so you can roll the fur off of your clothing.

Tips & Warnings
  • Teach your cat to sleep in a pet bed and don't allow him on furniture.
  • Vacuum your rugs and other soft fabrics once a week.
  • Purchase a type of cat that doesn't shed as much as like the Devon Rex.
  • People who are allergic to cat hair, should not be exposed to cat dander. They could experience sinus congestion or have a more severe reaction.
