In tropical locales, coconuts have long been used as an all-natural beauty solution. Loaded with antioxidants, the versatile coconut has valuable health and beauty benefits. Coconut oil, or coconut butter, can be easily implemented into your own beauty regimen. Coconut oil can enhance your hair by providing a shiny, soft and healthy mane that smells delicious. It has the ability to create a glossy look while also strengthening the hair shaft. Coconut oil not only provides immediate results, but is also a long-term beauty investment.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Buy high quality coconut oil. On the label, look for the words unrefined, organic and virgin.

  2. Step 2

Turn your solid coconut oil into a liquid. The liquid form makes it easier to spread. Unrefined coconut oil is solid below 76 degrees Fahrenheit. Melt coconut oil by placing the jar in warm water until it liquifies.

  3. Step 3

Take a shower. The best way to apply coconut oil is in the shower when your hair is completely wet.

  4. Step 4

Pour coconut oil onto your hands and rub them together so they are evenly coated. A little oil goes a long way; a pea-sized amount should be sufficient.

  5. Step 5

Carefully apply the oil to your hair and make sure it is evenly distributed. Use a comb to help spread the oil and to get it to your scalp.

  6. Step 6

Repeat the application if desired. If you have long or thick hair, you may want to apply more coconut oil.

  7. Step 7

Keep the oil on your hair for one hour before washing it out. Use warm water and a non-moisturizing shampoo to wash out the oil. You may have to rinse your hair a few times.

  8. Step 8

Wash your hair thoroughly with warm water and use a non-moisturizing shampoo. This may require multiple rinsing.
