How to Spend a Day in New Orleans City Park

New Orleans City Park is a 1300-acre treasure in the heart of the city of New Orleans available for the public to enjoy. In addition to open green spaces and majestic oaks that have stood for hundreds of years, the park features attractions and facilities for visitors of all ages. By knowing about all that New Orleans City Park has to offer, it is easy to spend an entire day enjoying the park’s amenities.

  1. Step 1

    Start the day with a visit to Carousel Gardens Amusement Park. Take a spin on the Antique Carousel, the last wooden carousel in Louisiana, and ride the Tilt-A-Whirl, Bumper Cars or the miniature train that chugs through the park.

  2. Step 2

    Continue the family-friendly adventures in Storyland. Twenty-six fairytale-themed sculptures provide playground adventures for children of all ages. Put your imagination to work as you board Captain Hook’s pirate ship or climb Jack and Jill’s Hill.

  3. Step 3

    Enjoy the lush greenery at the New Orleans Botanical Garden. More than 2,000 varieties of plants make up the living displays of the Botanical Gardens.

  4. Step 4

    Stop in the New Orleans Museum of Art. Explore the 46 galleries that make up the $200 million art collection. Exhibits range from European paintings to Native American arts.

  5. Step 5

    Continue enjoying works of art outdoors in the Besthoff Sculpture Garden. Fifty-seven sculptures, many of which are by master sculptors of the 20th century, make up the peaceful surroundings of the Besthoff Sculpture Garden.
