Making a stretchy black cat is a fun project for children of all ages. This project can be done as an art project at school, a craft at a Halloween party or just for fun when looking to make decorations for your home at Halloween time.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Construction paper, orange, black and green Pencil
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Stapler
  1. Step 1

Cut a piece of black construction paper into a 5-inch by 6-inch square. Fold in half and cut a shape of cat's face. The shape should resemble a flattened light bulb with a point at the top for the cat's ears.

  2. Step 2

Cut out facial features. With the green construction paper, cut out oval-shaped eyes. Cut out a small orange circle for the nose and a larger orange circle for the mouth.

  3. Step 3

Cut out strips using the orange and black construction paper. Cut one strip of each, measuring 2 inches by 8 inches. These two will be used for the body. Cut out four more black strips, measuring 2 inches by 9 inches.

  4. Step 4

Place an orange strip and the black strip at a right angle, then fold, alternating black then orange until the strip of paper is folded into an accordion fold. Release fold to reveal a "stretchy" body.

  5. Step 5

Create arms and legs. With a stapler, attach two strips to each side of the top and bottom of the cat. To give arms and legs character, roll each strip loosely around a pencil.

  6. Step 6

Glue the eyes, nose and mouth in the proper places on the face of the cat. Attach the head to the top of the stretchy body with glue and reinforce with a stapler.

Tips & Warnings
  • If hanging the cat from the ceiling, make the cat's face visible from both sides by gluing eyes, nose and a mouth onto both sides.
  • Never allow young children to cut with scissors while unsupervised.
