Learn Street Magic

David Blaine and Criss Angel have both popularized street magic. Performing street magic is not as difficult as you might imagine, as resources are freely available to help you master the effects.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

First.. decide what type of magic you want to perform. Do you want to do large effects, or, do you want to perform close-up magic? Are you outgoing enough to attract a crowd?

  2. Step 2

Second.. Pick your poison. There are many sites across the internet that teach a wide variety of magic that can be used to attract a crowd in a street magic environment. The Magic Roadshow Journal of Magic is one of the leading resources on the web. They feature a variety of magic tricks and magic videos in each issue. If you will google 'street magic', you will discover a variety of other worthy sites. You don't have to spend a penny to discover some really great magic.

  3. Step 3

Three.. practice. You will never succeed if you don't take the time to practice until your effects are second nature. Don't think you have to master many, many tricks to begin your career. Six or seven effects, performed expertly, are more than enough to get you on the road to performing for a crowd.

  4. Step 4

Four.. begin slowly to increase your confidence. Perform for a few people to get your 'patter' down to the point where you don't have to worry about the patter part; be able to concentrate on your magic. This will take a little time and dedication on your part.

  5. Step 5

Five.. routine. A good street magician only needs two or three effects, each about five minutes in length, to attract and entertain a crowd. Figure the best order to perform your effects to maintain your audiences' attention and boost your tips.

  6. Step 6

Six.. learn from other street magicians. Watch others perform every chance you get. Don't copy, but do note what works and what doesn't. Watch particularly how they gather a crowd, as that is vital for a street performer.. Good luck!
