Step 1
Ask friends and family for old patterns. You can also invite them over for a pumpkin carving party; you supply the food, they supply the patterns.
-
Step 2
Look at coloring books. Many pages in coloring books can be used as pumpkin patterns. Odds are you child has them lying around. Simply make a copy and use it as a pattern.
-
Step 3
Visit the sites listed in the 'Resources' section of this article. The patterns range in difficulty.
-
Step 4
Check when you purchase your pumpkin. Some stores offer a free set of basic patterns with purchase.
-
Step 5
Allow friends or family to display their artistic abilities. Ask them to draw a pattern for you.

on 10/2/2009 Thanks for all the suggestions. My grand kids are big enough to enjoy a real pumpkin carving this year. Should be a very messy good time!! K
