Things You'll Need:
- Fishing pole
- Fishing lures
-
Step 1
Buy an assortment of different trout lures from your local bait shop, including many different spinners and rubber worm lures.
-
Step 2
Use one of the small trout spinner lures. Cast your lure as far as you can. Let the lure drop to about 4 feet from the bottom of the lake. Give it one quick jerk, and slowly reel it in, stopping every 3 or 4 feet to allow your lure to drop back down a bit. Give it a jerk every time you stop reeling in. This gives the lure the look of a dying fish. Once you have reeled the lure all the way in, cast it back out about 10 times. If you haven’t gotten a bite from a fish, then it is time to test a new lure.
-
Step 3
Try a plastic worm lure with a slip weight on the line. Cast out your plastic worm lure as far as you can. Let the lure sink all the way to the bottom of the lake. Give the lure two or three jerks, making the lure move up and down like a worm stuck in a current. Reel in the lure at about 3 feet at a time. Every time you stop reeling, let the lure fall back to the bottom of the lake. Give it two or three more jerks, and continue this process until you have the lure reeled all the way in. Repeat this process for about 10 casts.
-
Step 4
Apply some baiting oil to your lures if they are not working. It shouldn’t take more than trying two or three different spinning lures before you find a lure that will work for you and the location where you are fishing. The bait oil, in some cases, could be your best chance if you are fishing in a dark, murky lake.
